Experts with the American Thoracic Society cautions the use of e-cigarettes with its new startling findings.

Presented at the ATS 2021 International Conference, researchers unveiled how e-cigarette use may lead to respiratory complications, including wheezing and shortness of breath, among adolescents and young adults.

The study was conducted through an online survey, which collected data of nearly 3,000 participants.

The participants were asked about their consumption of e-cigarettes, nicotine cigarettes, and marijuana. The data was collected throughout August of 2020.

According to the findings, e-cigarette use led to wheezing and shortness of breath, even among those who didn’t consume nicotine cigarettes or marijuana.

“Wheeze and shortness of breath are just two indicators of many to assess respiratory health,” said the study’s lead author in a news report

“The respiratory system is complex and it may be that measuring respiratory health more frequently through such means as spirometry may help tell us more about the relationship between e-cigarette use, multiple product use and respiratory outcomes.”
