A study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology suggests that people with certain personality traits are less likely to develop mild cognitive deficits.
The study suggested that individuals who are organized and have self-discipline tend to be at a lower risk of developing mild memory and thinking problems.
People who are moodier tend to be at a higher risk.
“The risk of developing memory problems is complex and is likely to be a mix of age, genetics and lifestyle factors,” the authors implied in a news release.
“There is no sure-fire way to prevent mild cognitive impairment or dementia and research is underway to learn more about why some people are at more risk than others.”
“This study adds to existing evidence of a potential link between personality types and cognitive decline, but we don’t yet understand the underlying reasons behind this link.”
