Symptoms: Recurrent episodes of binge eating; Persistent abnormal behavior to prevent weight gain (eg. vomiting, excessive exercise, laxative misuse); Preoccupation with self-evaluation of body shape or weight.

Levels of Severity: The following are levels of severity for bulimia nervosa.

  • Mild: 1-3 episodes per week
  • Moderate: 4-7 episodes per week
  • Severe: 8-13 episodes per week
  • Extreme: 14+ episodes per week

Usual Onset: Adolescence/Young Adulthood

Comorbidity: Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Kleine-Levin syndrome, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sleep Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, Substance Use Disorders

Gender Ratio: Women > Men

Suicide Risk: Moderate
